The Project
CK21 are part of the successful team chosen by Your Homes Newcastle to deliver the Heart of Walker Retirement Village on Walker Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
This extra care facility has been developed along the lines of the Dutch model where spaces within the building are designed for living. The development consists of 75 units of accommodation of 1 & 2 bed apartments. The aim of the development is to provide a high quality facility with a focus on living and well-being for the residents. Within the building envelope facilities will include health and fitness, café, hairdressing, library, IT and retail space. All the health and beauty facilities are located at ground floor within the atrium space, so that they can also be accessed by the general public creating a more vibrant space within the building.
The structural form of the building is load-bearing masonry with areas of steel frame within the four storey atrium. All floors are precast concrete floor units. The building includes an atrium to maximise natural daylight into the building. Externally there are car parking facilities, a central garden space and conservatory.
The construction of the retirement village will be undertaken by Wates Living Space with Architectural design provided by ID Partnership and is currently being constructed with completion due autumn 2016.
